Cooperation with Research Institutions




The Ukrainian Research Institute of Archival Affairs and Records Keeping closely cooperates not only with educational establishments, but also with academic institutes and research institutions. Recently the URIAARK have signed 9 cooperation agreements.

The Belarusian Research Institute for Documentation Science and Archival Affairs is the first in the Republic of Belarus scientific and research institution, that carries out researches in the field of records keeping and archival affairs.

The Institute was started in 1991, when in Minsk at the Institute of Party History under the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus was founded Belarusian Research Centre of Records Keeping and Retro Information. Since June, 20, 2001 official name of the institution has become «The Belarusian Research Institute for Documentation Science and Archival Affairs».

In October, 1999 in the BelNIIDAD was started post-graduate course on two specializations: 05.25.02 – «Documentaries, Documents Studies and Archival Studies» and 07.00.09 – «Historiography, Source Studies and Methods of Historical Research».

During the period the Institute developed more than 100 research topics, prepared and published instructions, standards, rules, recommendations, a number of manuals in accordance with the main activities of the Institute.

The All-Russian Scientific and Research Institute of Archives and Records Management

Founded in 1966, the Institute is a research institution in the Federal Archival Agency. The AllRSRIARM is engaged in relevant theoretical and applied problems in archival and records studies.

The Institute developed rules, procedures and regulations of the state archives and archival organizations. A number of lists of documents for governing the selection of documents for archival preservation were developed. Major areas of the research institute are issues on theory and practice in documents appraisal and archives completing, creation and development of scientific reference system and its theoretical and methodological framework, classification of archival information. Specialists of the Institute are successfully involved in addressing economic issues in archival affairs, ensuring the preservation of archival documents and their use.

In 2003 the Institute was granted the status of a basic organization in training and skills development of employees in the spheres of archival and documents studies and documentation for management in states-members of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

In 2006 in the Institute was started post-graduate course on specializations 05.25.02 – «Documentaries, Documents Studies and Archival Studies». Since 2008 has been opened the Council for doctors’ and candidates’ theses D 316.001.01.

The Institute of Encyclopaedic Research, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

The Institute of Encyclopaedic Research was started as the Coordinating Desk of Encyclopedia of Contemporary Ukraine, the NAS of Ukraine, founded in 1998. In April, 2004 on the bases of the Bureau due to the Resolution of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established the Institute. The Institute is a leading research and scientific institution in Ukraine, studying the development of encyclopaedic affairs, developing scientific and methodological foundations for the creation of various types of encyclopaedias and fulfil their professional expertise.

For different types of encyclopaedias the Institute’s scientists are developing concepts, dictionaries (registers), define the principles of material presentation, criteria for its selection, methodological principles of encyclopedic article preparation and its information content, its bibliographic and iconographic providing.

Cooperation agreement between the URIAARK and the Institute was signed in January, 18, 2006.

M. Hrushevskyi Institute of Ukrainian Archeography and Source Studies, the NAS of Ukraine (till 1991 – the Institute of Ukrainian Archeography, the AS of the UkSSR, till 1995 – the Institute of Ukrainian Archeography, the NAS of Ukraine) is a specialized scientific institution in the sphere of archeography, source studies and special historical disciplines under the NAS of Ukraine. The Institute is charged with the systematic and purposeful detection, processing and publication of documents and monuments of written historical and cultural heritage, namely creation of a kind of fundamental source encyclopaedia of Ukrainian people, coordination and scientific and methodological guidance of archeographic activity in other scientific, educational, cultural institutions in Ukraine, development of theoretical and methodological issues for modern archaeology and source studies.

Since 1991, the Institute has been providing postgraduate and doctorate courses on specializations 07.00.06 – Historiography, Source Studies and Special Historical Disciplines and 07.00.02 – World History. Form of study: full-time, part-time.

Since January, 1994 has been started the Specialized Scientific Council with the right of taking into consideration and defence of theses for the doctor’s (candidate’s) degree of historical sciences on specializations: 07.00.06 – Historiography, Source Studies and Special Historical Disciplines; 07.00.02 – World History.

The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies

The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies (CIUS) is the leading centre of Ukrainian studies outside Ukraine. The Institute was founded in 1976 by joint efforts of Ukrainian public figures and scientists to provide basic institutions for Ukrainian scholars in Canada. The Institute serves as the organization for Ukrainian Canadian Studies, publishes books and academic journals, developing materials for Ukrainian language education in schools in Western Canada, organizes conferences, lectures and seminars, provides research grants to scientists.

To further development of Ukrainian-Canadian scientific and cultural ties in 2007 the URIAARK signed the cooperation agreement with the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, University of Alberta. One of the articles of the agreement involves the identification of documents of archival Ucrainica in Canadian archives and preparation of joint publication in Ukrainian and English of «Archival Ucrainica in Canada. Reference book». In pursuance of the said article of the treaty was prepared monograph by I. B. Matiash «Archival Ucrainica in Canada: historiography, typology, content»; in 2010 was published a complex reference book «Archival Ucrainica in Canada. Reference book» on the documents on Ukrainian cultural heritage related to the history of Ukraine and the Ukrainians documents of foreign origin (archival Ucrainica), deposited in the archives, archives-museums and libraries in Canada.

The Institute was founded in 1993. Scientific activity of the Institute is carried out within the state insurance system of documentation fund, aimed at the implementation of state policy on the creation and storage of insurance fund of documentation of Ukraine and ensuring the implementation of advanced technologies on creation, storage, reproduction and transmission of information to users of the insurance fund documentation.

The priority areas of activity include technological and design providing of the insurance fund documentation; carrying out design work on new construction, reconstruction and technical re-equipment of enterprises and institutions of Ukraine; elaboration of normative providing of the state system of insurance fund documentation; international cooperation, organizing development, review, expertise, approval and preparation for the approval of international, interstate, national standards and other normative documents on standardization.

Найбільша бібліотека України, головний науково-інформаційний центр держави. Входить до числа десяти найбільших національних бібліотек світу. Щорічно до фондів надходять 130-140 тис. документів (книг, журналів, газет тощо). Бібліотека комплектується всіма українськими виданнями, отримує примірник дисертацій, що захищаються на території України, веде міжнародний книгообмін із понад 680 тис. партнерами з 70 країн світу. До Бібліотеки як депозитарію документів і матеріалів ООН в Україні надсилаються публікації цієї організації та її спеціалізованих установ. З 1998 р. здійснюється цілеспрямоване формування фонду електронних документів.

В структурі НБУВ знаходиться Інститут архівознавства, який створений 6 березня 1968 р. як Центральний науковий архів Академії наук УРСР, 4 січня 1984 р. перетворений на Відділ архівних фондів, з 30 вересня 1992 р. – Інститут архівознавства. На базі Інститута архівознавства діє Експертно-перевірна комісія НАН України, що розглядає питання складу та формування Архівного фонду НАН України, результати експертизи наукової та історико-культурної цінності його документів.

Починаючи з 2006 року НБУВ проводить підготовку наукових кадрів вищої кваліфікації через аспірантуру за денною та заочною формами навчання.

Згідно з постановою Вищої атестаційної комісії України, у Бібліотеці створена й успішно працює Спеціалізована вчена рада з правом прийняття до розгляду та проведення захистів дисертацій на здобуття наукового ступеня доктора (кандидата) наук за спеціальностями: 27.00.02 – документознавство, архівознавство (історичні дисципліни); 27.00.02 – документознавство, архівознавство (соціальні комунікації); 27.00.03 – книгознавство, бібліотекознавство, бібліографознавство (історичні дисципліни); 27.00.03 – книгознавство, бібліотекознавство, бібліографознавство (соціальні комунікації).


The Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre

Created by a group of Ukrainian public figures in 1982 as the Committee for Research of Famine in Ukraine at St. Volodymyr Institute in Toronto. Since 1988, the institution acts as the Ukrainian Canadian Research and Documentation Centre. The main activities of the Centre are to collect and store documents and oral testimonies about famines and other events in Ukraine, organize conferences, seminars, exhibitions, and documentaries.

In the archives of the Centre are kept copies of official origin, photodocuments, journals, clippings from contemporary periodicals, correspondence, phono and video, documents of “oral history”, other video documents.

Cooperation agreement between the URIAARK and the Centre was signed in May, 31, 2007.


The National Centre for Monuments Studies, the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Association for Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments

The Centre was founded in May, 23, 1991 by joint resolution № 151 of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Association for Protection of Historical and Cultural Monuments.

The National Centre for Monuments Studies is a research institution whose work aims to deepen the theoretical and methodological level of monuments studies and activity on monuments protection in Ukraine. Employees of the Centre work out modern scientific approaches to monuments identification and their scientific classification, develop practical programs for preservation of historical and cultural heritage, conduct systematic monument study researches involving diverse historical and archival and archaeological source materials.

Cooperation agreement between the URIAARK and the Centre was signed in May, 10, 2006.
