The last decade of the Institute’s activity is marked with strengthening of creative contacts with foreign colleagues: the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Records Keeping and Archival Affairs (the ARSRIRKAA), the Belarusian Scientific Research Institute of Records Keeping and Archival Affairs (the BSRIRKAA). The tripartite Ukrainian-Russian-Belarusian Agreement on cooperation in the field of archival and records studies was signed in November, 2, 1999. Its subject has become full-scale cooperation in the implementation of joint scientific research work, edition of collections of documents and scientific works, carrying out scientific conferences, seminars, symposia, mutual reviewing of scientific research works and theses, informing about planned activities (conferences, seminars etc.), exchanging bibliographic and annotation information in the sphere of records keeping and archival affairs as well as scientific-methodical developments of all activities. Oversubscription of the Tripartite Agreement took place in November, 25, 2010 during the 17th International scientific conference «Documentation in the Information Society: International Experience of Documents Management» (Moscow City, the Russian Federation).
The results of the fruitful cooperation of the Institute with the History and Archives Institute of Russian State Humanitarian University has become edition of «Ukrainian Archival Encyclopedia» in 2008. Its relevance consists in summarizing the achievements of the national archives science and determination of its place among other branches of historical study and related disciplines, representing historical experience of Ukrainian archives and their outstanding representatives, defining the role of archival study of Ukraine in global archive space.
Together with F. Skoryna State University of Gomel’ under the Agreement, signed in 1999 collections of articles and documents about outstanding historian, archivist, teacher М. Dovnar-Zapol’s’kyi was prepared and bibliography and register of archival funds was concluded, which preserve documents about life and work of М. Dovnar-Zapol’s’kyi. Employees of the Institute participated in the Dovnar’s Readings (Rechyts’ya, the Republic of Belarus), and the University teachers – in scientific conferences carried out in the URIAARK.
In order to further develop Ukrainian-Canadian scientific and cultural relations in 2007 the Institute concluded the Cooperation Agreement with Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies of University of Alberta. One of the articles of the Agreement involves identifying the archival documents of archival Ukrainica in Canadian archives and preparation of joint publications in Ukrainian and English of «Archival Ukrainica of Canada. Reference Book». In 2010 was published complex reference book on documents of the Ukrainian cultural heritage and connected with the history of Ukraine and Ukrainians documents of foreign origin (archival Ukrainica) deposited in archives, archives-museums and libraries of Canada (state, public, private). The reference book has become the result of fruitful cooperation of scientists of Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies and the Ukrainian Research Institute of Archival Affairs and Records Keeping of the State Archival Service of Ukraine. The edition comprises information about the structure and content of documents of archival Ukrainica which are preserved in 57 archival institutions of Canada. The reference book also contains the materials on bibliography of archival Ukrainica of Canada; reference apparatus consists in index of names and index of institutions, organizations, churches. Presentation of the reference book took place in Embassy of Canada in Ukraine (Kyiv, Ukraine) and in Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies of University of Alberta (Edmonton, Canada).
Effectiveness of scientific cooperation of the URIAARK with foreign archivists is also proved by publishing activity of the Institute. To promote scientific ideas in sphere of archival affairs, publish results of scientific researches on theory and methods of archival studies, records keeping, special historical disciplines, publish archival documents in 1996 was found the scientific annual of the URIAARK «Studies on Archival Affairs and Records Keeping», in 1998 – archeological annual «Pam’yatky», in 1999 – interdepartmental scientific collection «Archival Studies. Archeography. Source Studies». Members of the editorial boards of these publications are М. Larin (the Russian Federation), А. Rybakov, S. Zhumar’, М. Shumeiko (the Republic of Belarus). In the annual «Studies on Archival Affairs and Records Keeping» special chapter is dedicated to the development of archival affairs in foreign countries. In the periodicals of the Institute articles of the Russian, Belorussian, Polish, German, Canadian authors are systematically edited.
